Urgent Kitty Rescues!

Updated January 31, 2012

The kitties on this page are in urgent need of help. They are in shelters that do not have no-kill policies, or their owners can no longer care for them. We need to find foster homes or adoptive families for these sweet kitties immediately or they may be put down. If you are interested in adopting a Maine Coon mix, please consider one of these kitties.

MCA doesn't have enough foster space to rescue all of the kitties who need our help. If you can provide foster care for these kitties, even on a temporary basis, please e-mail elaineln@pacbell.net

Click the pictures to see each kitty's adoption flyer.

Wally & Tigger

Hey, everyone! My name is Wally (I’m the gray tabby and white guy), and this stripey dude is my friend Tigger. I had a happy life with Tigger and my human family up until last year, when my dad got married again and his wife was allergic to us. We spent last winter outside (brrr!), but this year the family has decided to send us on our way. I’m about 6 or 7 years old, and Tigger is a cat of the world at 13. We are both friendly and loving companions who would love to join you and your family for the new year (and forever after!). Sadly, if we don’t find a new home by the end of 2011, we will both go into the shelter and probably not make it out again. Do you think you can help us? We are in Richmond, but we have friends who will bring us to you. All we ask is a safe and loving home together -- can you make our holiday wishes come true? How often do you get the opportunity to save two lives?

To learn more about us, please contact Rene at 510-205-7373 or renenduer@gmail.com

Barnaby

Well, hello there, cat lovers! My name is Barnaby, and I’m just the warm, snuggly, affectionate creature you’ve been looking for. Don’t let my little white sophisticated mustache mislead you –- I am an enthusiastic, young fellow still in my prime. At five years old, I’m the perfect age! I’ve moved beyond my young reckless kitty years out on the streets and am ready to settle down and truly domesticate. Did you know that five years old for kitties is equivalent to mid-30s in human years? I’m looking for a quiet home with peaceful adult companions who love to love as much as I do. I’m an experienced guy who’s seen many things in my short life. What I’ve learned is this: the best life has to offer is a warm kitty bed next to a heater on a cold night, a tender loving owner who will love me unconditionally the way I’ll love you, and a home to call my own.

To learn more about me, please contact Berkeley shelter at BACS.foster@gmail.com or on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/berkeleyanimals

Angie

Hello, there. My name is Angie, and I’ve got quite the sad tale (not tail; my tail is fine, thank you for asking) to tell. You see, I am a very attractive, middle-aged Maine Coon mix who has spent my life as the loving companion to an owner who recently passed away. To add to my sadness in losing my best friend, my owner’s daughter wants to have me put to sleep if I am unable to find another home. It’s like the tragic part of a fairy tale. I’m hoping for my happy ending, though: a home (even a temporary one would help) where I can again show my love and devoted companionship. I am 10 to 12 years of age, which is middle-aged in kitty life spans, and in Southern California. If you would like more information about me, please contact Kerri at the email listed as soon as possible. Thank you!

To learn more about me, please contact Kerri at ksross@gmail.com

Truman

Hi there! I am Truman, and I’m a young gentleman 5 to 6 years of age who needs a home -– even a temporary one -– as soon as possible. I think I should tell you, first of all, that I’m much better looking and much HAPPIER than this picture would indicate. On the other hand, if this sad “won’t-you-give-me-a-home-please” look is working on you, then I have no problem with that. Anything that will help me find a new home. I’m a cuddly kind of guy who will greet you at the door, twine around your legs, and follow you from room to room to keep you company and show you how much I care. I’m that kind of guy. I am also very laid back and good with other kitties (I have a pal named Tinker, if you’re looking for two) and even with dogs. If you would like more information on me, please call Vianni as soon as possible. Thank you!

To learn more about me, please contact Vianni at vianniv@yahoo.com or 408-859-1646

Tinker

Hi there! I am Tinker. As you may know, this was once a name for Scottish and Irish nomads. I feel like this fits me. I mean, with my ginger coloring I could easily be Irish or Scottish, and I’m kind of without a home at the moment –- although I’m hoping that will change soon. I’m just entering middle age at 7 to 8 years old, and I’m a really good companion kitty. I like being in the same room with my people and will greet you at the door. I enjoy getting pets, but I’m not really a lap kitty. That would be too presumptuous. I’m much more attractive than these photographs would have you believe and just a great all-around pal. If you are looking for two kitties, I’m currently hanging out with a kitty named Truman and we get along great, but it’s okay if we are adopted separately as well. We’re both good with dogs. If you would like more information on me, please call Vianni at the contact information below.

Biscuit

Hello! My name is Biscuit. If you’re like me, the word biscuit conjures up thoughts of warm deliciousness right out of the oven. Well, I’m not coming out of any ovens, but I am sure to warm your heart right away. I’m a young girl of about a year to a year and a half and was left outside a dumpster as I was about to give birth. Imagine the indignity! Luckily, a nice person rescued me, and now it’s time for me to find my forever home. I’ve got gorgeous Russian Blue coloring on my silky soft fur and am an enthusiastic little girl (spunky, even!). I have a playful personality and love to interact with people. I would probably do best as an only cat but might be okay with a mellow dog or a more assertive kitty. Because I have become used to time outside, it would also be great if I could find a safe indoor-outdoor situation (in other words, a safe backyard not near busy streets). I will be sure to greet you at the door when you come home. I enjoy getting head rubs and will even return the favor. When I’m happy I’ll let you know by rolling over onto my back and soaking up all the good feelings. I’m a fun-loving gal who’s looking forward to meeting my new family!

Lucky & Jinx

Hi everybody! We are Lucky and Jinx, two kittens in need of a home. As our names imply, we’ve had both good and bad luck in our short lives. You see, we ended up on the street (not so lucky) but were taken in by a kind person (lucky!) who has some dogs that don’t like cats (they’re the jinx -- silly dogs!). We are so adorable, she would have kept us herself if it weren’t for the dogs. We’re both curious, social, and learning to trust people -- so much so that we now purr at the drop of a hat when petted and have become quite the conversationalists (Jinx more than Lucky). Lucky is the all-black boy kitten with golden eyes, and Jinx is the girl with tuxedo coloring and green-gold eyes. We love to play (of course!), and it would be ideal if we could be adopted together, but it is not mandatory. We are now indoor kittens and settling into a pretty comfortable routine. We let people hold us; we follow them around the house; and we love to wrestle together. Lucky is a laid-back kind of guy, while Jinx is a little more social (and, as we mentioned, quite the talker). We have been checked out by the vet, had our first shots, and are ready for our new homes!

Lake Berryessa Lovelies

Argonaut                                Blizzard                                         Powderpuff

Hi everybody! We are three cats who lived happily indoors in an office in Napa. Unfortunately, the office closed, and we can’t live indoors at our new house. Two of us -- Powderpuff and Blizzard -- are unhappily living outdoors near Lake Berryessa (a rough area for cats) until we can find a new home. Poor Argonaut was having such a hard time living outside that he was taken to a shelter. Friendly humans are tracking down the shelter, but in the meantime if you can help any of us out, even with a temporary situation, we would really appreciate it. We’ve always been indoor cats and are not doing well in our new environments. We are all fixed, in good health, and just looking for a little TLC. We are all five years old. Can you help us? Don’t worry about transport -– we can find a ride to you!

To learn more about me, please contact We Care Animal Rescue at wecarear@sbcglobal.net or 707-963-7044

Black Siblings - Extremely Urgent!

Hello! We are Wolfgang Bombay and Freda Calcutta, a pair of brother and sister black cats. You can probably tell by our names that we are way cool and have fun personalities! We are also very affectionate and adore laps. Despite all our good points, we have been left behind in an abandoned house and are scheduled to go into a shelter on Thursday, October 13. Do you think you could help us, maybe even with a foster home? We are about 8.5 years old and in good health. Hey, it's almost Halloween! In the spirit of the season, can you help a pair of black kitties out? We'd even be happy with a temporary home until we can find something more permanent! We are located in Oakland, but transport can be arranged elsewhere.

To learn more about us, please contact Marlene at 510-393-2534 or mlsironi@gmail.com

Reuben, Rosemary, & Sugar

Hey there! We’re Reuben, Rosemary, and Sugar, three kitties who were rescued from a bad area in Guerneville where unsavory types hang out. Now it’s time for us to find our forever homes! Here’s a little about each of us:

Reuben: No, I’m not a sandwich. Funny, right? What I am is a marvelous neutered boy full of love and patience. I’m about 5 to 6 years of age, very healthy, and sure to be the darling love of my forever home.

Rosemary: I’m loving, kind, sweet, and somewhat of a talker. My foster mom says I’m one of her favorites of all time (that’s saying a lot!) and I’m really just wonderful. I’m very patient with humans and sure to bring much love and cheer into anyone’s life. I’m 7 years old so just entering middle age in the kitty world and very healthy.

Sugar: I’m the baby of the bunch at under a year old. My foster mom thinks I look like a baby cheetah. Cool, right? I have gorgeous markings and am quite tame. I have been spayed, microchipped, and have a funny little squeak that comes out when I meow. Adorable, right?

Bubbles

Hi there! My name is Bubbles. No, not because I look like I’ve been in a bubble bath, silly –- because I have a bubbly personality! I really love people and will come right up to you and ask to be petted. If you hang around, I will rub against you and eventually flop over and show you my beautiful soft fur and (kind of large) belly. Yes, I am a bit on the zaftig side at 16 pounds, but I know if I can get out of this shelter cage and into a home of my own I will lose weight and become the delicate little slip of a girl I used to be. Even though I’m stuck here in the shelter I haven’t let it get me down; I’m a happy, relaxed girl who loves attention. Because of my good nature, the staff here has done everything they can to try to find me a home. Why don’t you come visit and see how sweet I am for yourself? I am in the Yolo County Animal Services Shelter in Woodland (that’s just north of Sacramento), and my ID is A098830. You won’t find me in the adoption section, though, because as much as I love people, I seriously dislike other cats, so I’m in my own space. I am about 5 to 7 years old and so ready for my true home!

Munch

Hello everybody! My name is Munch. I also answer to the name Mun-Mun. I am a six-year-old kitty who’s as easy going as they come and was living a happy life with my family until, well, they had a baby. I really am not fond of the rather loud and mobile new member of the family and have been hiding whenever this person is out and about. My family and I have tried for over a year now to make it work, but the truth is I am just not fond of a loud, toddling presence in my space and would be happier in a home that’s a little quieter. I’ve lived just fine with a dog (see adorable picture) and am really an easy going girl in every other way. I’m affectionate but am not one of those kitties who constantly needs attention. I’m happy just purring in your lap while you work on your computer or relax in front of the TV. I like sleeping at the foot of the bed as well. I don’t shed very much, but I enjoy being groomed, and I have never bitten, clawed, or even hissed at anyone. I have been spayed and am up to date on all my shots. My owners love me so much that if you’d like a trial adoption to make sure it works out, that’s fine.

To learn more about me, please contact Christine at cteike@hotmail.com or 916-384-8208

Xander

Hi everybody! My name is Xander. Fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer might remember Xander as Buffy’s great, down-to-earth buddy. I’m a great buddy myself. I’ve been described as handsome, lovable, and sturdy -- pretty much everything you could want in a cat. People even say it’s impossible to not want to pet me the moment you meet me. I’m very affectionate and eat up pretty much any attention that’s given to me, so I guess that’s true. I’ve also been told I’m like a dog in a cat’s body -- I love to be petted and will give you adorable little head butts to remind you to continue. I’m a young boy at two years of age and have handsome brown tabby markings. I’m a big boy, which just means there’s more of me to love. I’m not fond of other kitties so would do best as an only cat, but I would probably be fine with a cat-friendly dog and cat-familiar kids over the age of seven. I have been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and am FeLV/FIV negative.

To learn more about me, please contact Tammy Reiser at tamara.rieser@yahoo.com

Sweetie

Hi everybody! My name is Sweetie and, yes, it’s because I’m the sweetest, most affectionate cat imaginable. That’s what my owner says, anyway. She’s had me for seven years and loves the dickens out of me, but unfortunately she is moving to a place where she can’t take me. Bummer, huh? But I’m going to try to make the best of it. As I said, I’m told I’m an adorable little girl with huge, expressive green eyes and a lot of personality. I am quite communicative and use looks, head movements, and meows to get my point across. I love to be cuddled, hugged, kissed, petted, brushed, and just hang out with my human companion. I also like laps, cuddling in bed, and even having my belly and toes massaged. I have been an only kitty for these seven years so would probably do best in another home where I can be the only kitty. I’m also declawed, so I will need a safe indoor environment. I’m not a big fan of vacuums and other loud noises but am extremely well behaved and am careful not to climb on tables or counters. I wait patiently for my food, which needs to be wet because I’m not great at chewing. I’m 12 years old, in great shape, and would make a wonderful companion to a mature adult. Hope it’s you!

Sylvia, Plenty & Gorgeous Georgette

Georgette                            Plenty                                Sylvia

Hey everybody! We are three adorable kitties who, through no fault of our own, have found ourselves in the Oakland shelter. Although they try their best, it’s not a good place for a kitty to be and as things are pretty crowded, we need to find homes as soon as possible. Can you help us? We are all shockingly gorgeous and have lovely personalities. We would make a super addition to a household. Here’s some more information on each of us:
Georgette: Yes, I am Gorgeous Georgette. That’s what they call me anyway, with my fabulous gray tabby markings. I’m a young girl at about three years of age and would make an ideal lap cat for a home with adults or older children. My ID number is ACR 04758.
Plenty: Plenty amazing, I am! I’m 10 years young (that’s just middle-aged in kitty years) and a large, furry Maine Coon mix with great tortoiseshell/tabby markings and tons of love and affection. I would do best in an adult-only home. My ID number is ACR #04011.
Sylvia: Stunning Sylvia, they should call me. I mean, look at my face -- is that the cutest thing you’ve ever seen or what? I’ve also got gorgeous gray-and-white tabby markings. I’m two years old, which is a perfect age for a kitty as I’ve got all the spunk of a kitten and none of their bad habits. My ID number is ACR#02549.

To learn more about us, please contact Oakland Animal Services at
510-535-4883 or accatoas@gmail.com

Tula Belle, Portia & Baloo

Tula Belle                         Portia                         Baloo

Hi there! We are three cool cats currently stuck in the Rohnert Park Shelter and looking for a real home. Would you like to meet us?
Tula Belle: I am a confident and friendly girl. I like to be held, and I enjoy playing with balls. I am about a year old. Other cats are not my cup of tea; I prefer humans.
Portia:
In addition to my striking coloring, I have a vibrant and friendly personality. I’m a chatty girl! I don’t get along well with other cats, although that may just be because living here in the shelter is making me stressed out and cranky.
Baloo:
I am a feisty, playful boy about a year old. I’m not aggressive, but sometimes my energy can be a little overwhelming for most other cats. I’m very friendly with people, and I’d really love to get out of this cage and burn off some energy!
We are all healthy, tested negative for FIV, FeLV, and heartworm, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped, and spayed or neutered.

To learn more about us, please contact Rohnert Park Animal Shelter at 707-584-1582 or mzeldes@rpcity.org

Sophie

Hello. My name is Sophie, and I am a 13-year-old cat who has been a loving companion my whole life. Unfortunately, my guardian has suffered a stroke and is having problems with things like cleaning in and around the litter box (okay, sometimes I miss; it’s not something I’m proud of, but it happens) so I need to find a new home. As I said, I’m a very loving girl and full of personality. I am a great conversationalist and like to knead and purr and knead and purr. I’m sweet and nurturing with younger kitties. I don’t like it when it’s cold (brrr!), so I enjoy snuggling under the blankets when that happens. I also like getting into high places. Among my many talents are drinking water from a glass and right from the sink. I’ve been a well-loved cat my whole life, so I am hoping to find a home where I can love and be loved again. Will it be with you?

To learn more about me, please contact Glenna at 707-738-2944 or glenna.barrett@nsh.dmh.ca.gov

Bailie

Hello! My name is Bailie. It’s kind of the female version of Bailey and, as I’m sure we all remember, George Bailey was the lead character in It’s a Wonderful Life. Well, I have had a wonderful life, but unfortunately after spending the first nine years in the same house I have to find a new home because a family member has developed serious allergies. I’ve always been an only kitty and would do best in that situation. I do very well with humans and am wonderful with kids. I am quite talkative and friendly, but I prefer to be held on my own terms. I love to cuddle, especially at night (very important on cold nights, don’t you think?). My family really loves me and hopes I can find a home where I am loved just as much. I don’t think that will be hard because I’m pretty darn lovable.

To learn more about me, please contact Ann at muttlovermeow@hotmail.com

Squeaks

Hi everybody! My name is Squeaks. That’s because I like to talk! I’m actually quite the conversationalist, even though my deep philosophical musings on life tend to come out as, well, squeaks. Still, I’m sure once you get to know me you’ll see how thoughtful and understanding and, okay, chatty I am. I’m a young boy – the vet estimates around eight months old – and I was found in a field behind a McDonald’s in Vacaville by a kind woman. Unfortunately, she already has three kitties and is moving in the fall so is unable to keep me but she is hoping to help me to find the great home I deserve! Yes, I’m that sweet and adorable. I mean, look at me! And did I mention a great conversationalist? I’ve been checked out by the vet and have been neutered and am up to date on my shots. I live in Vacaville but transport is available.

Mikey & Allie

Mikey Allie

Hey everybody! We’re Mikey and Allie, two wonderful kitties in need of a new home because our dad can’t take care of us any more but loves us so much he wants to find a good home for us instead of taking us to a shelter. Hope you can help as we’re super fabulous kitties. Mikey is the brown-and-white tabby and is five years old and a big ole bruiser (who needs to have his food monitored or he will eat everybody’s). Allie is 11 years old and petite, mostly because she’s very polite (i.e., she lets Mikey eat her food). We’re very well behaved, use the scratching post and litter box, and don’t make a mess in any way. We’ve spent our lives as indoor kitties and are super healthy. So, whaddya say? Can you help us out? Hope so! We’re sure to bring our new family tons and tons of happiness (and you will put a smile on our faces and a purr in our hearts as well).

To learn more about us, please contact Kevin at kevin.silcox@yahoo.com

Mogul

My name is Mogul. Yep, just like those crazy snow bumps that if you hit them help you soar into the air. I’m such a good looking and friendly guy, I’m sure to make you soar with happiness. I’m not bragging. It’s true. I mean, look at me: I’m a seal-point Ragdoll mix and a stately 10 years of age (that’s about 50 or so in human years, still lots of life in me!) I’m a big boy at 20 pounds and I am a plain eater -- just give me some dry Science Diet and I’m a happy guyJ I’ve also occasionally been known to enjoy some tuna juice. But that’s it. At the moment I’m in a house with small children, dogs and another cat and get along with all of them just fine. I enjoy drinking from running water (fun!) and sleep with my paw covering my face, like a little sleep mask for kitties. I enjoy getting rubbed but mostly close to my head and neck. And I’m kind of a man’s man -- somehow I prefer the company of men. I’m quite well mannered and don’t jump up on counters. I do enjoy sitting in a window sill to get my vitamin D. All in all, I’m a good guy to have around. Oh, my family need to find a new home for me due to financial hardship – there’s so many of us who have been affected by the economy. I have been diagnosed with diabetes but it’s easily handled with insulin (in case you’ve never given a kitty insulin, it’s about the easiest thing you can do) and I am doing well on it.

To learn more about me, please contact Kathy at 530-795-2614 or pepe7373@aol.com

Mickey

Hi! My name is Mickey, and let’s get one thing straight: I am NOT a mouse. I’m also not a boy. No, I’m a girl Mickey who’s approximately 4 to 5 years of age and very sweet and loving. I was found in the same colony as another kitty who needs a home (Chommers), so we may be related. I would be ever so grateful if you could see it in your heart to give me a home. I love Whiskas treats and will do anything for a treat. And, lest you think I’m fat from my pictures, let me tell you that it’s ALL fur. Really. I’m just a big puff ball and maybe weigh six pounds. Anyway, I’ve been told I’m really funny to watch and would do well with someone who would give me a lot of love. I am fine with other kitties but might be a little afraid of dogs. So if you’re looking for a young girl who will give as much love as she gets, that’s me!

To learn more about me, please contact Rebecca at reba7117@hotmail.com

Chommers & Missy

Hi everybody! We’re Chommers and Missy -- two bestest friends (and probably related -- either son and mother or brother and sister) who are in need of a good home. Chommers: I am approximately 5 years old and very curious and playful. I get along well with other kitties, but sometimes I get in trouble with other animals because I try to be a little too friendly. I am a big boy at 18 pounds and have giant paws, a giant voice, and a giant heart. I got my name because my cheeks are so full my foster parents called them chommers. I can be a little jumpy, but I do love to be held and will follow you around like a dog. Missy: I am a little calico girl weighing seven pounds. I am more timid than Chommers, but I do love to play (even by myself!), and I am an avid hunter. That means I love to catch things and bring them to you. I get along well with other kitties and am very maternal with Chommers. We both will need a little extra TLC because of our time on the street, so it would be great if we could be adopted together.

Calle & Sydney (Very Urgent)

Hello! We are Calle and Sydney, two five-year-old sisters who were rescued as kittens. We look a little like wild cougars, don’t we? In fact, we are very gentle and loving, and all we really want out of life is a calm, quiet home with each other and some kind humans. We both love attention, and Sydney likes nothing better than being at our mom’s side all day. We are used to being indoors and have lived with other kitties, and we even get along with dogs as long as they don’t chase us. Because we have been together all our lives, we really need to find a home together. Our mom is heartbroken at having to give us up, but she is losing her house and needs to find a stable home for us where we can feel safe and loved. We are in San Luis Obispo; call today!

To learn more about us, please contact Lisa at 805-438-5345 or lisa@moonfiremountain.com

Popper & Motown

Hi there! We are two sweet brothers in search of a new home after our owner surrendered us due to financial difficulties. We’re both about nine years of age and very loving. We have been together for all of our nine years so it would be super duper if we could find a home together – but if we have to go separately in order to find a new loving home, that would be okay. Popper is the most Maine Coon looking of the two of us. He weighs about 12 pounds and has long brown tabby fur. Popper is big on taking naps (who isn’t, right?) but when he’s awake he enjoys rubbing against his person’s legs and getting petted and having his ear scratched. He likes toys (including the laser) but really prefers playing with a person to playing all by himself. Motown has beautiful black hair and is a more petite nine pounds. He also really loves hanging out with people and playing and being held and cuddled and is a great lap cat. Both of us are very affectionate and not the type to hiss or scratch and are even good with other kitties (we’re not sure about dogs only because we haven’t met many).

To learn more about us, please contact Lynn Richardson on 707-763-4549 or larichardson2@comcast.net
