Air Lift to Arizona Saves MC Kitties

At 6:30 a.m. on July 3, 2004, these 21 kittens, two mother cats were airlifted from the San Luis Obispo airport to Phoenix. Elaine Lyford-Nojina, of the Maine Coon Rescue chapter in California, helped coordinate an effort to rescue these kitties from a number of high-kill California shelters to send to the Maine Coon Rescue chapter in Arizona (which had no kittens to adopt out). Thanks goes out to our new volunteer, pilot Scott Naumann, and his wife, Sandy, who hosted the kittens overnight before airlifting them safely to Arizona.

Thanks goes out to the Los Angeles team of Karen, Ingrid and Kat who worked with other rescue groups to save two moms and nine kittens from Los Angeles shelters, and to Mary Dee who found 12 kittens from Northern California shelters to send along.

We also thank Joanne of Maine Coon Rescue in Arizona who coordinated the airlift and who found all kinds of vet services for the kits when they arrived. In short, this was truly a team effort.
