OLYMPIA:
Olympia came to us after a horrible experience. She and her buddy had been locked in a storage unit with no food, water, or light, and left to die. The owner of the storage unit found them and they were rescued. Placed in a shelter, her buddy died but Olympia gained weight and seemed ok. She was kept for several months at the shelter while an investigation took place. We took her into rescue in late July 2008 when she needed to be rescued from the shelter. She got her name, Olympia, because she played with the Olympus camera strap of our volunteer who took her photos for her adoption ad. It fit her perfectly. However, she didn't eat much and we ended up hospitalizing her. For two weeks, her health was up and down — she would be bright, happy, alert and eating; then her temperature would soar and she became lethargic, clearly in great discomfort and ignore her food. After extensive consultation, ultrasounds, etc., we determined that she had FIP and we humanely euthanized her. I am so sad for this sweetheart because she never got a chance to really live in a family after the horrible storage unit abuse — never got to sleep on a bed with someone who loved her, sit and look out a window at the trees and listen to birds, or be a part of a loving and safe family. She and her buddy are now able to be together in spirit. Elaine
